Dear parents/ Estimados padres,
Bishop Parkes and the Diocese of St. Petersburg have been monitoring the developing storm.
Tomorrow, September 25, they have decided that we will have a half day of school. All students will be dismissed at noon. There will be no after school care or after school activities.
Thursday, September 26 they have decided to close St. Joseph.
They will continue to monitor the situation for Friday, September 27.
The Open House originally scheduled for Thursday, September 26 will be held at 6:00pm on Thursday, October 3 at 6:00pm.
We pray for all of you, your families, and all others in the path of the storm.
El obispo Parkes y la diócesis de San Petersburgo han estado monitoreando la tormenta que se está desarrollando.
Mañana, 25 de septiembre, han decidido que tendremos medio día de clases. Todos los estudiantes saldrán al mediodía. No habrá cuidado ni actividades después de la escuela.
El jueves 26 de septiembre han decidido cerrar la escuela de St. Joseph.
Continuarán monitoreando la situación hasta el viernes 27 de septiembre.

We are excited to share some wonderful news with you! This school year, St. Joseph Catholic School will be welcoming therapy dogs to our campus as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the well-being and development of our students.
The organization we will be working with is: Go Team Therapy Dogs.
Mission Statement:
The mission of GO TEAM is to train handler-dog teams to offer relief, care, and assistance to those in need.
The GO TEAM handler/dog teams are dedicated to placing well-trained, certified therapy dog teams in programs that provide comfort and caring through a canine-human bond.
Our special volunteers serve in a wide variety of settings including assisted living homes, libraries, schools, airports and hospitals. Teams provide help to victims in distress and work with our servicemen, first responders, and anywhere a therapy/comfort dog is needed.
What Are Therapy Dogs?
Therapy dogs are specially trained animals that provide comfort, support, and affection to people in various settings, including schools, hospitals, and nursing homes. Unlike service dogs, which are trained to perform specific tasks for individuals with disabilities, therapy dogs are trained to interact with groups of people, offering emotional and psychological benefits. Research has shown that interaction with therapy dogs can help reduce stress, anxiety, and feelings of loneliness, while also promoting social interaction and improving overall mood.
What to Expect During Visits
Throughout the school year, therapy dogs will visit our school at scheduled times, providing students with an opportunity to interact with them in a controlled and supervised environment. The visits will take place on the covered court, and students will have the chance to pet, cuddle, and spend time with the dogs. These sessions are designed to be positive and calming, helping students to relax and feel more at ease.
Each therapy dog is accompanied by a trained handler who ensures the safety and well-being of both the students and the dog. The handlers are experienced in working with children and are aware of the needs and boundaries of each student.
We understand that some students may have allergies, fears, or other concerns related to dogs. If you have any specific concerns or if your child should not participate in these activities, please let us know so that we can make appropriate accommodations.
Benefits of Therapy Dog Visits
- Emotional Support: Therapy dogs help students manage stress and anxiety, particularly during challenging times or before exams.
- Improved Social Skills: Interacting with therapy dogs encourages students to communicate, share, and express themselves.
- Enhanced Learning Environment: The presence of therapy dogs can create a more positive and relaxed atmosphere, contributing to a better learning experience.
We believe that the introduction of therapy dogs will be a valuable addition to our school’s approach to education, fostering both the academic and emotional growth of our students.
Therapy dogs will be on campus from 1:30pm to 3:00pm on the following days:
- August 21
- September 25
- October 25
- November 22
- December 18
- January 24
- February 28
- March 14
- April 16
- May 23

Investigaciones han demostrado que la interacción con perros de terapia puede ayudar a reducir el estrés, la ansiedad y los sentimientos de soledad, además de promover la interacción social y mejorar el estado de ánimo general.
Qué Esperar Durante las Visitas
A lo largo del año escolar, los perros de terapia visitarán nuestra escuela en horarios programados, brindando a los estudiantes la oportunidad de interactuar con ellos en un entorno controlado y supervisado. Las visitas se llevarán a cabo en áreas designadas, y los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de acariciar, abrazar y pasar tiempo con los perros. Estas sesiones están diseñadas para ser positivas y relajantes, ayudando a los estudiantes a relajarse y sentirse más a gusto.
Cada perro de terapia estará acompañado por un guía capacitado que garantizará la seguridad y el bienestar tanto de los estudiantes como del perro. Los guías tienen experiencia trabajando con niños y son conscientes de las necesidades y límites de cada estudiante.
Entendemos que algunos estudiantes pueden tener alergias, miedos u otras preocupaciones relacionadas con los perros. Si tiene alguna inquietud específica o si su hijo no debe participar en estas actividades, por favor infórmenos para que podamos hacer los arreglos adecuados.
